Pat Reyes, my team’s recruiting assistant, is celebrating her 20th anniversary with the company. To show our appreciation, the team is celebrating her anniversary with a luncheon at Texas de Brazil. I think the best way to show people how much you appreciate them is by making them something. For me, I show my appreciation through baked goods. Go figure.
And there is no celebration without cake!!!
Pat loves my red velvet cake and she loves going to the movies. So after some thought, I decided to make a cake that represents her favorite past time. What better to represent the movies than a tub of popcorn and a movie reel?!! NOTHING!
I want to apologize for the picture quality. I didn’t have my fancy camera available and my hands were sticky with sugar gunk. So, I reached for my cell phone and took the pictures.
I wished I was able to take pictures of the entire process, but cakes can can be temperamental.
When working with fondant, you have to work fast. Especially when it’s a hot and humid day.
Can you see the bottom of the “popcorn tub”. The cake is starting to buckle.
Instead of putting the word “popcorn” on the tub, I decided to put Pat’s name. Soooo Cute!
This is the movie reel. I used a long strip of white fondant to wrap around the side of the cake. I then cut black fondant squares and hand painted the tiny lines on the “strip”.
Can you guess what I used to make the popcorn? I promise, it’s edible and does not taste like butter.
Mini Marshmallows and yellow food coloring! I know it’s hard to believe, but it’s TRUE!

Congratulations Pat on your 20th Anniversary!!!! Thank you for everything that you do!
